A Mother's Journey
Being a mother is built on love, but raising a daughter born with epilepsy and global developmental delay takes that love to an extraordinary level of resilience and determination. From the moment I realized Twaritha’s path would be different, my journey became one of advocacy, learning, and hope
When we first started therapy for Twaritha, we did not have the luxury of the vast resources available today and we were unsure of what to expect. Thankfully, both my husband’s family and my own were incredibly supportive.
In the early days when the cost of treatments in Dubai felt very high, we decided to take Twaritha to India for therapy where my parents were any incredible source of support allowing me to focus on her progress.
When she turned 10, we again had to move to Singapore. The country offered strong support for its citizens, but the therapy Twaritha needed were incredibly expensive. Despite all the efforts, Twaritha still could not walk independently; she kept tripping and falling, leading to fractures — sometimes more than one at a time as her bones were not as strong as they should have been. We tried expensive herbal treatments in this period hoping to strengthen her muscles and bones. We stayed in Singapore for four years, but ultimately, we made the decision to return to India for another round of therapy.
In India, with six months of intensive Ayurvedic treatments, OT, PT, and speech therapy, Twaritha was able to balance better and her speech became clearer. During this time, I also started studying various courses and immersing myself in art which helped keep my mind engaged and find purpose in the midst of the challenges. When we had a chance to visit Dubai again, we discovered equestrian and music therapy, which sparked a new hope.
We decided to shift back to Dubai and start our own journey thus embarking on a personalized path for Twaritha’s healing. We decided to incorporate right-brain therapy, focusing on creative arts, dance, and music. The results were nothing short of extraordinary. Twaritha’s improvements in movement, speech, and overall development were visible, and it became clear that this approach was what she needed all along. She participates in several events as fashion show model, dance and music concerts. It felt like a turning point in her journey, and for the first time, I truly believed we were on the right path.
Twaritha’s journey has not been easy, and there were many times I questioned every step we took. However, with the determination, love, and unwavering support from family we never gave up. Today Twaritha aspires to contribute to G3eNaBle, supporting children in need. She is also diligently working towards her dream of opening a shop that offers bouquets and teddy bears, a vision she has been passionately pursuing for months.
